I was recently having a conversation with a friend about love. We discussed her love life, past and present, and how she couldn't believe that she thought she was in love before. The current love she has for her new relationship has surpassed her "old love." I totally understand how she feels. Putting aside those guys I dated for a few weeks or months in high school where "I love you" was just said for the hell of it, how often have I truly loved? Do you only have one true love and never actually loved the others? Or can you love multiple times in life, each love being a different kind of love? Not thinking too much into it, of course I have always cared for my previous boyfriends, but love? I think including my current relationship, I have truly fallen in love twice in life. Did I lie when I said I loved others? No, their love was just more of a friendship type of love. Comparing though, every love is different. You can believe you are in that type of forever love with someone when it doesn't end happily ever after. Love is a complicated thing, it can be so hard to analyze it for what it really is. For me to compare love, I can now see a difference between them. I am not a love expert by any means, but these are the differences I found between old love and true love.
As I may be wrong in some instances, these are reasons I found in my life as to how I can tell the difference. Every love is different, and maybe you loved once and that was enough to tell. Love is different for everyone and everyone loves differently. You just have to figure out for yourself what true love really is.
